Welcome to CrowZone Radio

CrowZone is a growing community project, broadcast from the studio in Kington Langley and Blyth in the UK. We also have presenters creating shows just for us (and you) in Roslyn Scotland and Cardiff Wales.
We believe we're one big Virtual Village really, and hopefully you'll feel part of our growing family!

We are only a small station, but we have big ideas, and with current technology a lot is possible.
We'd love you to be involved too. Radio plays, book reading, music shows, creative writing blogs or articles, it's all possible in CrowZone.

"Why CrowZone" you ask?
Here in Kington Langley we have an annual Scarecrow Festival where the whole village goes crazy for Scarecrows.
We have very close links with the festival and so we wanted to reflect that with the station, and integrate what we're doing with our festival (and maybe others too).

We broadcast throughout the Kington Langley Scarecrow weekend - more details here www.scarecrows.biz

And of course, crows are pretty cool...dressed in black, steely eyed, bad attitudes, they're the rock stars of the avian world. What's not to love?

The story so far...

I (Steve) got interested in Internet Radio in 2011 as part of the Kington Langley Scarecrow Festival, the idea was to create a musical background that could be heard all around the village, without resorting to MegaWatt PA systems. I started a stream call "Radio Scarecrow" with an internet service called krykey.com but I was never really happy with the output. I wanted to ensure everything was licensed and proper and quite by chance I came across a bunch of guys running a licensed stream from neighbouring Sutton Benger, called ITfm.

In 2012 I started broadcasting "How Bizarre" on Thursday nights, but after a few months we were evicted from the studio (then at The Bell) and we became nomadic for a while. An alternative location was found, about 200 yards away in the next pub and work started on building the studio.
During the build the stresses and strains took their toll on the personnel and ITfm was disbanded, to be re-born as GVR some months later.

I continued to broadcast How Bizarre throughout this time (2012 - 2014), and had built my own studio set up to broadcast from home. In early 2014 I decided to take the next step and set up my own stream "The CrowZone", and that's pretty much were we are now.
In the summer of 2014 we introduced our first new presenters, Smudge & Mrs.Howebzar.

Smudge is located up in Blythe Northumberland and has built his own remote studio which captures the stream on a Monday evening.
Mrs.HoweBzar is, unsurprisingly, located at the Crow's Nest studio in Wiltshire and presents her own unique blend of current music on a Wednesday evening.

Most recently we have introduced new presenters Dave Norrie (Folk Hour on Tuesdays at 7pm) and Ian Wilson's "Sunday Brunch"

The studio

Originally located in our front room, we now have a purpose built  studio in the garden. We have our own studio cat, Rico, and all the normal facilities.

We run "RadioBOSS" studio automation software, streamed via www.DJsoft.fm

If you would like to visit, maybe go out on air, we'd love to hear from you.

The Crow's Nest studio is located in Kington Langley North Wiltshire.
Studio 2 is located in Blyth, Northumberland

Community Events

We like to support our local villages (Kington Langley, Hullavington, Kington St.Michael) by promoting events over our radio shows.
We can also take Crowzone Radio out of the studio for Outside Broadcasts (OB). Here's what we've done before:
  • Launch event with Amazing Archie - 1 May 2014
  • Eurovision Parties at Hullavington in N. Wiltshire, 2014 & 2015
  • Scarecrow festival at Kington Langley in June  2014 & 2015
  • Kington Langley Table Top sales!
  • Hallowe'en OB 2014
  • Christmas Disco (Good Friday 2015)

If you have an event to publicise, or you would like us to come and present a show from your event (we will need an internet connection, some power and some "refreshments"), then please use the contact page.
